Governments rarely miss a chance to waste money, but under the Albanese Labor Government, it's become a hallmark of their legacy, even amidst a cost-of-living crisis.
‍
The Albanese Labor Government, in all its so-called wisdom, believes that throwing money at the problem is the best way to tackle the cost-of-living crisis. Their claim that the budget is somehow non-inflationary is like the CFMEU arguing they are free of corruption.
‍
Treasurer Jim Chalmers is busy spinning to Australians that his budget is perfectly suited to these economic times. But let’s not kid ourselves.
‍
What should have been an exercise in fiscal responsibility has been turned into a stimulus splurge by Chalmers. He insists it’s not fuelling inflation, but the market isn’t convinced. Rate cuts are delayed, inflation is still climbing, and Australians are left paying more for everything. The real kicker? This spending spree isn’t just poorly timed; it’s a case of poor judgement. With $20 billion in additional deficit spending on top of already bloated budgets, it’s clear that this government exercises about as much fiscal restraint as Elon Musk does before posting on X (Twitter).
‍
And what do Australians get in return? A sugar hit. A $300 energy rebate, supposedly designed to ease the pain of rising costs, but which ultimately just injects more money into the economy, driving prices even higher.
‍
The irony is almost Betoota Advocate-worthy. In its attempt to help the most vulnerable, the government is making things worse. Costs are rising, and inflation remains stubbornly high.
‍
So, as Australians watch their grocery bills climb, their rent soar, and their savings shrink, they can at least take comfort in one thing: the government’s spin doctors are working overtime to convince them that everything is under control. Just don’t look too closely at your bills—they tell a very different story.
